DTI Launches New, Improved JobCentre

By News - Posted on 29 June 2008

A new look, improved services and an increasing number of jobs being advertised – and all with the same high level of dedication to helping each individual find the job that is right for them. That is the message from The JobCentre, which will be officially re-launched at a ceremony on Monday 30 June.

The refurbishment of The JobCentre on Prospect Hill, Douglas, brings with it a more professional and user-friendly service for both clients and employers.

The Minister for Trade and Industry Hon David Cretney MHK explained: “The JobCentre provides a vital public service – its website is the most used in IOM Government. I believe it is important we continue to improve the already excellent service The JobCentre provides to help both individuals and employers. To that end, we have invested in a new computer system providing up-to-the-minute information on the job vacancies across the Island as well as a training suite to give individuals the tailored help and support they need to find the job that is right for them. In the first 5 months of this year, the number of jobs advertised is up by 169 on the same period last year, which is evidence that the services provided by The JobCentre are appealing to employers, while remaining free of charge to all.”

The Member for Training and Employment Mr Juan Turner MLC added:

This re-launch is much more than a new logo and a fresh coat of paint. The image of The JobCentre had perhaps become a bit tired and it is fair to say that in the past employers with posts at the top end of the market would not have ordinarily considered advertising in The JobCentre. Our aim is for all employers, whatever vacancies they may have, to feel confident in using our services and for individuals seeking employment to feel The JobCentre is relevant and helpful to them. The growing range of employers and jobs we are attracting is proof that we are succeeding.”
