How was your day at work?
What is the best way to deal with tasks that you do not want to do?

Re: How was your day at work?
I usually find delegating gets most of the work off my desk. Most of the really tough jobs I like to keep for myself as I like a challenge.

You can sometimes be more productive by doing less and going out for a meal. I always find is not working more but thinking smart that is the key.

Organising your work as a manager can be really tricky at times. I don't have an office and so am accessible most of the time. Managing a department means troubleshooting a lot of the time. So from day to day I am never quite sure what will be on my desk. I have learnt to stay calm most of the time now although everything used to stress me much more. Deep breathing helps a lot also I find hiding under my desk at times works well too.

Re: Feng Shue {spelling ??} stuff ?
Well, yes, unfortunately, they do. One place I worked had a Feng Shui 'consultant' in, who proceeded to say that the way we were positioned (facing each other) was not condusive to a good work environment. She was talking out of her a***, it actually was a great way to work! We could have technical discussions as and when needed. Sure, we disagreed, but who doesn't? Looking at my Technical Directors funny face soon made me smile again!
Anyway, her recommendations were to have a layout like Star Trek. Whereby the two developers sit at the flight controllers, and the captain (manager) sites behind - making us very uncomfortable. "Why aren't you doing this?", etc. etc.

Fang shoey? (sp?)
Rule 1 - keep the boss where you can see her (him)
Rule 2 - postition your desk so that you have something (someone) nice to look at
Rule 3 - keep plenty of chocolate in the drawer closest to you

What about mirrors, are they not used a lot in feng shoo ? You know how they position mirrors on roads at strategic places so that you can see oncoming traffic. I've found our office mirror to be our best ally when keeping a look out for the boss's entrance.

Well I can tell you that it is NOT fun sitting in an office which has been designed for our usual dismil weather. We have large windows and hardly any material to keep the blazing sun from turning our office into a sauna. Ther are some pathetic blinds that are now permanently closed and still our office is roasting. We will be sitting in our bras and panties soon !!!!!!
