Langness inquiry could be just weeks awayThe a public inquiry into the public's right to use the network of Langness paths has been agreed by Tynwald. The many affidavits forwarded by PRoWL to the Attorney General and the Department of Transport will be very useful at the inquiry, as will all the other affidavits produced recently in respect of the Herring Tower and Langness Point paths. There are two matters which need to be tackled with some urgency: 1. The inquiry will consider ALL the paths on Langness and so we should like to have further affidavits - this time in respect of the area north and east of the car park, in other words, the grass land between the golf course and the heathland leading towards the Herring Tower. If you can say with complete confidence that you walked these paths regularly for at least the period 1984 - 2005, that the paths were never obstructed ( not even for a single day ) and that no notice ever informed you that you were only allowed to be there by permission of the landowner, then we should like to hear from you. We will send you a map and form, and explain how to proceed. 2. We also need to identify those people who are most willing and most able to provide the most telling evidence at the inquiry. Such people would be those who can be certain that they walked the circular path, and/or others, particularly frequently and regularly during the 21 years before the obstructions appeared. We could do with identifying some people who walked these paths several times a week for particular years within this period, as well as those who - for instance - walked it every weekend. We should like identify the people whose evidence could be developed from the 'bare bones' of the affidavit into a fuller 'Statement of Evidence', and to identify those people willing to attend the inquiry and give evidence in person. We would aim to produce up to 20 particularly convincing 'Statements of Evidence' and identify up to 10 people confident and willing to give evidence in person at the inquiry. We are now nearing 'make-or-break time' in the campaign, and we would urge you all to consider how best you can help the campaign in its final preparations for the inquiry. If you are able to help, please get in touch very soon. With thanks, Public Rights of Way Langness - people working together for access around Langness. Public Rights of Way Langness
